While still at university, in 1967/68 James Gerrand paddled alone by canoe down the Mekong River from war torn Laos, across Cambodia to the Vietnam border. A year later he returned to produce his first documentary in which the personal adventure theme was used to discover all aspects of the regions including livelihood, development, history and conflicts.
